The Chicago Sting was a professional soccer team based in Chicago that played in the North American Soccer League from 1975 to 1984. The team was originally called the Chicago Mustangs but changed its name in 1975.
The Sting was known for its successful 1981 and 1984 seasons, winning the NASL championship both years. The team also made it to the playoffs four times in its history.
Some notable players who played for the Sting include Pato Margetic, Karl-Heinz Granitza, Arno Steffenhagen, and Rudy Glenn.
The team ceased operations in 1988 due to financial difficulties.
